Need more than 25 feet?
Every condenser ships with a 25 ft pre-charged line set. Tell us your space and your measured line run — we'll match the indoor and outdoor units and add the extension and coupler kit you need.
Indoor and outdoor units are sized together — they have to match.
- Mark where the air handler goes inside and where the condenser will sit outside.
- Run a tape (or a string) along the actual path the lines will travel — through the wall, along the siding, around corners, down to the pad.
- Add 2–3 ft for slack and round up. Then measure it again.
Finish the install — optional
- Outdoor service disconnect — a weatherproof shut-off within sight of the condenser. Required by code in most areas.
- Electrical whip — the flexible conduit from the disconnect to the condenser.

How to choose a single-zone mini split
A single-zone system is one outdoor condenser feeding one indoor unit. It's the simplest way to heat and cool one room or open space: a garage, shop, bedroom, addition or finished basement. Every MRCOOL® DIY® 5th Gen bundle here includes the condenser, indoor air handler, a 25 ft pre-charged Quick Connect® line set, DIYPRO® cable and remote, so there's no vacuum pump or refrigerant work.
Start with the room size. As a starting point, 9K fits up to about 350 sq ft, 12K about 350–500, 18K about 500–750, 24K about 750–1,000, and 36K about 1,000–1,500. Go up a size for high ceilings, poor insulation or lots of sun-facing glass. Our sizing guide walks through it.
Then check your power. The 9K and 12K bundles here run on 115V, and the 18K, 24K and 36K run on 230V. Every size needs its own dedicated circuit, and MRCOOL requires electrical work by a qualified electrician. The electrical guide lists breaker and wire sizes to hand them.
Plan the small parts. You'll also need a disconnect and whip (your electrician will spec these), a condenser pad or wall bracket, and a drain hose extension. A LineGuard® cover finishes the outside. Heating or cooling several rooms? Multi-zone is usually the better fit.
Single-zone FAQ
Single zone or multi-zone?
Single zone covers one room or open space. If you need separate temperatures in three or more rooms, one multi-zone condenser usually costs less than several single-zone systems. Read the multi-zone guide.
115V or 230V?
The 9K and 12K bundles are 115V. The 18K, 24K and 36K are 230V. Even the 115V models are hardwired on a dedicated 20 A circuit, not plugged into an outlet.
What else do I need to buy?
A disconnect, whip, breaker and wire (your electrician will spec them), a pad or wall bracket, a drain hose extension, and exterior sealant. Our install guide has the full list.
What if 25 ft of line set isn't enough?
You can extend up to MRCOOL's 75 ft maximum with an extension line set and coupler kit. See the line set guide.
